                                           New Testament Survey
          
          Text receptus is a  text that was used as the based of the New Testament in the Holy Bible which consist of all of text available.

Tesalonians is the oldest Book in New Testament.

1.Book of Matthew.
   
    A.Matthew is believed to be written by Matthew himself,a disciples of Jesus oaccording to the Beginning of New Testament.
   
    B.Date:Traditionally the Book of Matthew have been written as early as A.D. 50 but it is more likely it was written after the Fall of Jerusalem in A.D. 70 and probably was written over a period while Matthew lived in Antioch.
     
    C.Theme: -ICXC (Jesus Christ) the Incarnate (becoming human/becoming                     flesh) YHWH (God) -> Major Theme.
                    -Immanuel (God with us).
                    -The Kingdom of God and the new covenant reach is realized in                            the TRUE ISRAEL (Christian Church).
      
      D.Subtheme: -The fulfillment of Old Testament (Jesus Christ fulfill all the prophecies) by establishing New convenant through his death and ressurection and will be with his church forever.
                            -Revelation of the Kingdom of God.Jesus Christ proclaims that God's Kingdom has come (God power and authority manifasted in Jesus Christ,but the fullness of the Kingdom will be at His second coming).
                            -Discipleship (Matthew 4:18-22,Matthew 8:18-22).
                            -Through mission (Matthew 10,Matthew 28:18-20) 
                            -The beggining of Nonjewish Christian Community (Matthew 18:11-12, Matthew 21:43, Matthew 28:19)
  
2.Antioch.
   
   A.Antioch is the strong hold of Christianity it is where the first community that was called "Christians".
   
   B.The Church in Antioch was very strong and mixed between Jewish and Gentiles Community.
  
   C.The Church of Antioch where Matthew belong were a great church as witnessed by Ignatius of Antioch a great writter and theologian,and a disciple of John the Apostle.
   

Book of James 

     -The author identify himself as James,the servant of God and the servant of Lord Jesus Christ.James also the brother and kinsman of Jesus Christ and the first Christian leader of Jerusalem.His nickname is "James the Just".According to the early Christian tradition James was the son of Joseph from his previous marriage before Mary.He is called brother together with  Jude , Simon , and Joses ( Matthew 13:55, Mark 6:3, Luke 6:14, and Galatians 1:19 ).James is different with another James in the Twelfth Apostles.The first one is "James the Just/James the Elder" , the other one is "James the Young".

   -Date:The letter of James was written on 55 A.D. until 60 A.D. right before James was martyred.Probably the letter of James was written after Steven was martyred ( Acts 8:1)

4.Apocalypse: Revelation  

Major Theme :
    -Harmony of faith and works.The letter is parallel with the Sermon on the Mount.James doesn't teach we are saved by works alone,but he does teach that works without faith will not save man.James is against invisible religion where salvation is not necessary followed by visible work.This means that moral behavior and faith are necessary for salvation.James is very clear that grace in salvation has personal moral responsibility 

Background :
       -The letter of James doesn't have address to a certain church or person,but it was addressed to the twelve tribes of Israel (James 1:1)
       -James is a Jewish Christian and he is familiar with the Old Testament.The letter was written in Greek meaning it was addressed not only for the Jewish Christian people.The people in this letter were experiencing trials , persecution , deception , poverty , economic injustice ,  and apostasy.James encourage the people to live in faith , repentance , patience , and self-control.

Onesimus

Onesimus was a slave/servant of Philemon.Philemon is a Christian,a high-ranking pastor who live in a city of Colossae in Phrygia.Onesimus
is a runaway slave,fearing punishment from his master,Philemon.Onesimus fled to Rome.In Rome,he was captured and imprisoned for being a runaway slave.In prison,he met Apostle Paul,and repented from his sin and was baptized by Paul.In prison,Onesimus became very close with Paul.Paul wrote a letter to Philemon asking him to accept Onesimus with love and to forgive him also to treat him as a brother. With this letter,Paul sent Onesimus back to Philemon.When Philemon receive this letter,not only Onesimus was forgiven, but also he became Philemon's brother and close friend.Philemon even sent Onesimus back to Rome to study Christianity and to help Paul.Later,Philemon became a church leader in Gaza,Palestine.After the death of Paul,Onesimus preach the Gospel as far as Spain,Carpetania and Patras.The church sent Onesimus to the city of Ephesus to become a Christian pastor there to replace Apostle Timothy.At his old age Onesimus became the church leader of Byzantium.In the year 109 Onesimus was arrested because of his faith.He was in prison for 18 days before he was stoned and beheaded because his faith in Christ.A certain women took his body and place it in a silver coffin.Apostle Onesimus was regarded as one of the 70 Apostles of Christ 

Book of Philemon

Author: Paul the Apostle.

Usually Paul uses  a secretary to write his letter,but for Philemon he used his own handwriting ( Verse 19 ) 

Date : Book of Philemon was written at the same time as Collisians . It was written in A.D. 61-63 . 

Place: His letter was written from Rome during Paul's first Roman imprisoned . 

Major Theme : That we're no longer slaves but we're brothers and sisters in Christ.

Background : Philemon became a Christian by Paul and was a member of a church in Colosse.Onesimus was a slave of Philemon that run away because he stole from his master, Philemon. This action is punishable by death in Roman's Law. Somehow Onesimus met Paul and became Christian , according to Roman's Law Onesimus belong to Philemon so Paul sent him back to his master with this letter together with Tychicus who was carrying the letters to the Collisians and the Ephesians.Paul ask Philemon to receive and forgive Onesimus and treat him as a brother. Paul never ask Philemon to release Onesimus. Philemon later on became a church leader in Colosse. Onesimus became a missionary and later a church leader in Ephesus .
